Mother arrested for child neglect after 'massive roach infestation' found inside apartment

THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — A mother has been arrested for child neglect and trafficking after investigators say they found her young children sleeping next to drugs inside her roach infested apartment in Thomasville.

According to the Thomas County Sheriff's Office, agents recent executed a search warrant on an apartment in the 300 block Merrill Street where 23-year-old Kambriana Deshay Ivey lived.

Deputies say the spice was found between a box spring and mattress where Ivey's two children, ages 2 and 4, were sleeping on when investigators walked in.

"It was extremely difficult for agents to search the apartment of because of the massive roach infestation," said Louis Schofill, a Narcotics/vice commander.

Due to the drugs and "filth" inside the apartment, deputies notified the Thomas County Division of Family and Children Services. The children were immediately turned over to their relatives.

Assistant commander Keith Newman, a 20-year narcotics agent who's conducted thousands of searches, said the condition he encountered at the apartment was one of the worst situations he's ever seen

Based on the evidence, Ivey was arrested and transported to the Thomas County Jail. She is being charged with trafficking a schedule controlled substance and second-degree cruelty to children.

As of Friday, Ivey remains in jail without bond.
