TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A new addition to Leon County’s libraries is helping preschoolers prepare for school.

The library now has 70 launchpads for free checkout.

The tablets come preloaded with interactive books and games to help children between 3 and 5 years old learn.

The Leon County Library youth services director, Mary Douglas, says the new tool is a great way to bridge the achievement gap created by the coronavirus pandemic.

"Maybe at home, you don't have something to be a good tool to learn the ABC's and 123's that are required for future learning," said Douglas. "This'll be a great free process to learn that."

Of the 15 launchpads at the Leroy Collins Library, 14 were checked out on the first day.
