TALLAHASSEE, Fla.(WTXL) — In addition to having a hurricane kit ready to go, now is the time to prepare legally for hurricane season.
Legal Services of North Florida is reminding you to not forget the three P’s. Papers, pictures and property.
In case you need to evacuate, you should have important documents like your driver’s license, passport and birth certificates right next to your hurricane kit.
“Make sure you have them in a plastic container or plastic sleeve,” said Disaster Coordinator Attorney Kathy Grunewald. “The other thing is you can buy an inexpensive fire proof and water proof safe that you can easily pick up and move with you if you’re evacuating.”
If you own your home make sure you have proof.
Also before the storm take pictures of the outside and inside of your home.
“Then you’ll be able to have comparison of how your house, home or mobile home looked before the disaster and how it looks now,” said Grunewald. “That can be important if you’re trying to get government assistance for your property.”
