TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A man is behind bars for attempted murder after deputies say he shot a victim in the head after physically attacking another woman at a home in Tallahassee.

According to the Leon County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a disturbance on Millworks Way on Feb.29.

Once on scene, deputies immediately secured the area and detained the suspect, 28-year-old Corey Smith.

While investigating the scene, deputies found a victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head.

Witnesses told deputies that Smith had been in an argument with a woman on scene when he physically attacked her.

She was able to get away and Smith fired one shot, hitting another victim in the head.

The woman Smith initially attacked told deputies that she heard Smith state he intended to shoot her and not the other victim.

Smith was tackled and detained until deputies arrived. The gun was located on scene by deputies.

The gunshot victim was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and eventually to Shands Hospital, for care.

Smith was arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility.

As of Monday, Smith is being held in jail without bond for two counts of attempted murder, cruelty towards a child and domestic battery.
