TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A little kindness goes a long way, especially at Thanksgiving, which is why kids at Killearn Lakes Elementary School tied on their aprons and got to work to give back to those in need this holiday season.

Third grade students headed to the school cafeteria bright and early to bake pumpkin pies for people experiencing homelessness at the Kearney Center.

In the past week, they collected the pie ingredients along with toothpaste, toothbrushes and socks to donate to the center.

All of that, along with homemade cards, will make for a great Thanksgiving at the shelter.

"People who don't have homes, they need food and we are trying to make their Thanksgiving better," said Alexis Davis, a student at Killearn Lakes Elementary.

The students baked 40 pumpkin pies Thursday morning.
