TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — If you've driven through the Killearn area, you've probably noticed the large flag flying at the corner of Roscommon and Longford, but may not know the story behind it.
For 15 years neighbors have come together to raise a new flag on Memorial Day.
The flag is hung from the street light post, which means it sees some wear and tear in a year.
So neighbors honor the bravery of the men and women who died in battle by replacing the flag with a brand new one every memorial day.
Troop 23 Cub Scouts are responsible for switching the old flag out with the new flag every year.
"It's their program," said Donald Ford, the event organizer. "It's very well done. It teaches the boys protocol and respect for the flag."
Ford says a year under the street light wears the flag out, so they take pride in changing it to a fresh and vibrant one each year.
