CAIRO, Ga. — It was a special day for kids in Cairo as they got to meet NFL player J. J. Wilcox.

Wilcox grew up in the city, and went to the Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club when he was younger.

He recently decided to come back to his home state, and play football for the Atlanta Falcons.

Wilcox talked to the current Boys and Girls Club members Friday afternoon and encouraged them to work hard, and to obey their parents.

The football star is in town for Saturday's Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club 5K, which honors his mother.

"She was kind of like the heart beat of everything for the Boys and Girls Club," said Wilcox. "She spent more hours here working and giving back to the community and at the same time, being a great parent for me and my sister, and a great wife to my dad too. Her arms were spread wide."

Those who still want to participate but haven't signed up for the annual 5K, can do so Saturday morning starting at 7:00 a.m. The race will begin at 8:00 a.m.

Benefits go to the Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club.
