TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — No kid left behind ! A Tallahassee group is making sure every kid has what they need to be prepared for class Sunday morning.

Taking on back-to-school costs for any parent can be overwhelming.

From clothes, to haircuts to school supplies that can really add up.

That's why Tallahasseans got together this weekend to help fill backpacks for families in need.

"Sending them to school with everything they need is going to be a huge relief," Lacey Potter.

Many parents in the area with the same thoughts Sunday night as Lacy Potter, as she took her three children to Kids Fest Tallahassee.

"I thought it would be a lot of fun for them... it's a super huge help for everybody... school supplies and stuff is really a task. I brought my sister- in-law out here with me...we thought it would be a good time and a lot of help for both of our families," said Potter.

The back-to-school drive held on FAMU's campus provided children with the supplies they need to start off the school year, something that means a lot for Potter, as this time of year can be very expensive for her family.

"It helps people that really can't get anything on their own sometimes that need a hand and it makes them feel more comfortable doing so. I think its beneficial to everybody," said Potter.

This is the first year FOR the event. One organizer hopes that the children left feeling cared for.

"This is for for kids to know that you are important you are our generation... our future... our doctors lawyers... we love you all and we want you all to know that we are going to make sure you are prepared for this year and the year's to come," said Ayla Madison.

Madison and other organizers are already planning for next year's event They hope to hold it at the same time and place.
