Georgia Primary Election draws near as voters turn to mail-in ballots

GEORGIA (WTXL) — Time is running out if you need to turn in your absentee ballot for the Georgia Primary Election.

The deadline is Tuesday at 7 p.m., the same day as the primary election. Polls are open Tuesday from 7 a.m. until to 7 p.m.

Don't be surprised to see long lines. Due to a large increase in paper ballots by mail, it could slow down how fast votes are counted.

"Another big change that we expected to be the big discussion point, is the use of a paper in a statewide election for the first time in two decades," said Brad Raffensperger, the secretary of state. "This will be new to the vast majority of voters, but we know it's working."

Raffensperger also said polls in some areas will stay open until 8 p.m. Check your polling location for details.
