FSU Spring 2021 grads to have in-person commencement ceremonies

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — In an email sent to Florida State University's Spring 2021 graduates Thursday, President John Thrasher announced that they are solidifying plans to have them walk for in-person graduations.

Thrasher said that while the exact details are being worked out, the graduation ceremonies will be held in the Donald L. Tucker Center over two weekends in April.

The exact dates for the plan are Saturday, April 17-Sunday, April 18 and Friday, April 23-Saturday, April 24.

There will be 11 smaller ceremonies which will be organized by the college or department, to allow for proper social distancing, Thrasher said.

Masks will be required for all graduates and guests, of which graduates will be allowed to invite four people each.

FSU-Panama City will host its commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. (CST) April 24 at Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City. Ticket information will be sent to Panama City graduates.

The specific dates and times for each college or department are as followed:

  • Saturday, April 17 — 9:00 a.m.

Arts and Sciences: Computer Science and Psychology

  • Saturday, April 17 — 2:00 p.m.

Arts and Sciences: Biological Science; Chemistry and Biochemistry; College STEM Teaching; Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science; Mathematics; Physics; Scientific Computing; Statistics

  • Saturday, April 17 — 7:00 p.m.
