TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Have you ever wondered about the negative environmental impact our food provides when its gone to waste?
According to the New York times, most, if not all the wasted food goes to a land fill in which will end up emitting methane gas that is 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
We spoke to Jessica Plank, Dietitian and Nutrition Coordinator for Second Harvest of the Big Bend, on why it is important to prevent food waste.
"One it's going to be easier on your wallet two its going to be better for the environment overall, your going to reduce your own food waste print, and the last thing I would say is your going to get all the nutrients for how much your paying," said Plank.
It's best to get food such as carrots, winter squash, or cabbage because all of these store well in the fridge and veggies last longer.
