TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Florida is prepping for a surge of potential coronavirus patients by stocking up on test kits.
On Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis announced he ordered 2,500 COVID-19 test kits.
That's enough to test 625,000 people.
Florida has already received 1,000 of the kits. They're being doled out to labs and hospitals across the state to increase daily testing capacity as soon as possible.
"The tests will be distributed with priority to hospitals and counties with the highest need, starting with Broward County based on their increased number of cases," said DeSantis.
The legislature has also made preparations for COVID-19.
Lawmakers are planning to set aside an extra $25 million for the state's Department of Health. They've also placed an extra $300 million into the state reserves to cushion an economic downturn.
