TALLAHASSEE, Fla (WTXL) — A Tallahassee father is facing charges for being around other people's children.

Parents in the Capitol City are on alert after learning a registered sex offenderwas allowed to volunteer with their children.

According to court documents, he was a volunteer at a swim club and a local theater where his children participated.

That's not what landed the man in question back in jail, though.

Parents reported that while at swim events, he took pictures of children at the pool, besides his own.

Member of the community are shocked, wondering how that was ever allowed in the first place.

It really boils down to state law.

In Florida, if a registered sex offender has a child, they can support them. Meaning, attending after school activities is not a crime.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement says parents should stay on alert and know who's around their children.

The FDLE has the resources to help parents protect their children from predators.

The FDLE and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation both have websites where you can look up sex offenders.

You can search by neighborhood, to see if any live near you, or you can search by name.
