SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Deputies are warning the public about a mail scam that urges recipients to become "mystery shoppers" at Walmart.
The Suwannee County Sheriff's office sent out a warning to the public to be on the lookout for a scam sent through the mail that appears to be Walmart affiliated.
Over the weekend, deputies say several people in the community received unsolicited letters in the mail recruiting them to become "mystery shoppers" at Walmart, along with a check.
"We assure you that this is 100% a SCAM! Do not deposit this check into your bank account, or purchase the Walmart gift cards with the money," deputies wrote in a Facebook post.
Deputies say those who fall victim to the scam will lose around $900 when your bank discovers that the checks are fraudulent.
