COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — A Colquitt County jailer was arrested Monday on charges of providing contraband to an inmate.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, they received a request on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, from the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an investigation into information received by Investigators that a Colquitt County Jailer was bringing contraband into a jail inmate.
The investigation revealed that 25-year-old Jailer Amber Richter brought prohibited contraband into the Colquitt County Jail and provided it to an inmate. This took place within the last two weeks.
Richter was arrested on Wednesday and charged with providing prohibited items to an inmate and violation of oath of office and booked into the Colquitt County Jail.
The case is still active, but when completed, will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
