TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The James Messer Sports Complex is home to the City of Tallahassee's sand pile where residents can stop by a fill sand bags for their property after Friday and Saturday's heavy rain storms.

The site is self-serve, so everyone is asked to bring a shovel to fill your own sand bags.

The city also asks to only take what you need and keep the maximum bags to 25 per household.

Lizzy Kelley, the public information manager with the City of Tallahassee said, in situations like this, they're ready to help keep people and property safe.

"The city really emphasizes preparedness for all weather situations," said Kelley. "The bulk of this comes from hurricane season, but as you can see, right out the window, it is rainy today, and we're always encouraging our residents to do the same."

The City says an employee will continually check to the pile, but asks if you see the pile getting low, call them at 850-891-4968.
