BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL) — A flash flood warning in south Georgia has Bainbridge Public Works in preparation mode.
Last week, the Flint River flooded, causing some streets to close.
Bainbridge Public Works says it is monitoring the amount of rain coming in the area. Crews are expecting the Flint River to rise as a result of the expected thunderstorms.
They are not worried at the moment, but if the river does rise they will block off Cheney Park.
With the flash flood watch, they are evaluating many areas, but this is the only low-lying area that causes major concern.
Gabriel Mendez, the public works director of engineering, says their best defense right now is to watch and wait.
"We’re watching the rains and how they’re influencing the levels in the river," Mendez said. "As the river rises it can impact us from a flooding standpoint and so we’re monitoring the levels in the river to accommodate and react appropriately ,so that we can protect the properties and life that we have."
If anyone has a flooding issue, they ask that you call the city at (229) 248-2000 so they can help.
