TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Challenger Learning Center is canceling all of its summer camps due to the spread of COVID-19.

The camps were scheduled to take place from June 1 to August 7. If you've already paid, you will be contacted to get a full refund. Right now, the center is hosting virtual lessons two times a week.

“These lessons cover a variety of steam topics science technology engineering arts and mathematics,” said Challenger Learning Center communications Manager Samantha Reeves. “This is great for us to be able to continue providing content completely free just as a gesture to our community.”

Not only are the lessons free, but most the experiments can be completed with items you already have laying around your house.

“Hopefully they will come away with some level of being inspired, there may also be some roadblocks to not being able to do something or you’ve never done this before,” said Reeves. “You’ve never heard of this before and you realize you can take some elements of these lessons and do them right at home. Then have the ah ha moment of understanding.”

Later this week the center will send out a survey to camp parents to gage the interest on virtual camps. Click here to access those free virtual lessons.
