CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) — Despite the pandemic, elections are still happening and early voting in Georgia began Monday.

In Cairo, the elections office has spots marking where people can stand while waiting to vote.

They also had hand sanitizer for anyone who wanted it.

More than 3,000 applications were mailed out and as of Monday afternoon, 44 votes had been cast in-house.

"I noticed that we could come in here and I didn't have to wear a mask, which that's good since I don't agree with that part of it," said Susanna McGahee a Cairo resident and voter. "I like the herding theory. I'm just glad we're still able to vote."

The office has received more than 1,000 ballots altogether.
