Buck Lake Elementary students prove 'kindness wins'

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Kindness wins. It's the motto and a way of life now for a group of third graders at Buck Lake Elementary School.

The students first caught our attention when they sent letters of encouragement to the Florida State University football team.

Small words, with big meanings. Cards like those are what Matthew Millhard and his classmates sent to the Noles this month.

It was an act of kindness started by their teacher Stacey Schmidt after a difficult start to the season.

"Their words were to never give up, always keep trying, it's not always about winning it's about enjoying yourself," said Schmidt.

"We wrote them to give them kindness not to receive kindness because people were making them sad," said Millhard.

Little did the little ones know just how much kindness would be given back to them.

People raised money to buy tickets for the students to go to the FSU-Syracuse game this past Saturday and they received the star treatment.

16 students went to the game with their teacher. They also got to meet FSU President John Thrasher at the game.
