(WTXL) — Weekend mornings will get a lot brighter for families across the Big Bend and South Georgia.

On October 3, ABC 27 will add weekend morning news to its lineup. Those weekend shows will air live on Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

“I am excited for the ABC 27 team to help families in the Big Bend and South Georgia start their weekend mornings off right, with the news that’s impacting their communities," said ABC 27 News Director Vicki Bradley.

Veronika Vernachio joins ABC 27 as weekend morning anchor.

The West Palm native and University of Florida graduate is returning home to the Sunshine State. She most recently spent time in Tucson, Arizona as a reporter at the Scripps station KGUN-TV.

Adding weekend morning news will give ABC 27 a chance to connect with families in the Big Bend and South Georgia, giving them more options to stay informed with the news as it’s happening around them.

“Our goal at ABC 27 is to report essential journalism through meaningful storytelling. We’re excited that we’ll be bringing this same approach to weekend mornings, where viewers don’t currently have options,” said ABC 27 General Manager Matt Brown.

ABC 27 is a station dedicated to improving the lives of those communities around us.

Since 2019, the station has raised more than $250,000 for Second Harvest of the Big Bend and donated $20,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend aong with raising more than $20,000 through employee contributions to provide students at Riley Elementary with books to help improve literacy.
