TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Not one, but two ALDI stores will open in Tallahassee later this year.

The discount grocery chain confirmed the news in a release sent Wednesday morning.

Tallahassee's two stores are slated to open in 2021, according to the company.

"With the distribution center in place, ALDI plans to open as many as 35 new Gulf Coast-area stores by the end of 2022, with the first two stores in Tallahassee, Florida slated to open later this year," officials wrote in the release.

The company has not specified exactly where or when the stores will open.

This comes after it was announced in April that ALDI was taking over the Earth Fare store in Tallahassee after purchasing the building's lease.

Before that, news broke that ALDI may soon have a location at the University Village Shopping Center on West Pensacola Street, with documents from the City of Tallahassee showing the company being interested in a 19,000 square space zoned as Planned Unit Development.

Additionally, ALDI announced Wednesday that it broke ground on a new regional headquarters and distribution center in Loxley, Alabama, which will support the company’s expansion throughout the Gulf Coast region.
