LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Leon High School Teacher received a big surprise Thursday morning by being honored as this year's Leon County Teacher of the Year.
Jeannine Meis was just about to give her AP World History students a test when the superintendent, principal, co-workers, former students, and her husband and daughters stopped by to surprise her with the honor.
"I think changing up the curriculum as often as possible, and trying to bring in new elements and finding ways to connect it to what's important to them," said Meis. "So finding ways to make it relevant and exciting to learn instead of telling them here this is what you have to learn."
Meis was selected out of 44 candidates across Leon County Schools.
