LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Leon County is back in school and they have some new students.
As of noon Tuesday, the county school system welcomed 46 new students from counties like Bay, Calhoun, Franklin, and Gadsden, where schools are still closed because of Michael.
The kids come from every grade level and they'll be able to pick up right where they left off.
Superintendent Rocky Hanna said the children can choose to stay in Leon County Schools or return to their previous school system once schools are up and running again.
"We're here to educate children, protect children, and give them a future. Just because they aren't natives of Leon County doesn't mean they are any different," said Hanna. "Their still human beings, their still people and kids we need to help."
Hanna said he does expect more students will be coming and the county has the capacity to accommodate them.
