TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - In the first nine months of 2018 Florida saw a record number of visitors come into the state.

Following the state wide trend, Leon County also broke records for visitors with more than 2.4 million visitors stopping by.

Now the county is making plans to show more people that Leon County is a destination spot.

"With this radius of all of these students around us, it's only helping us grow," said Tyler Darling.

With Doak Campbell stadium in eyesight and FSU and FAMU not too far away the Collegetown has quickly grown.

"That's a very exciting and growing area and you can really feel the energy down there which is what Tallahassee is really known for. A very friendly and welcoming community," said Kerri Post the Executive Director of Visit Tallahassee.

For now, you can find the one stop shop for all things tourism at the Visit Tallahassee office downtown. But soon, the county will open up a new main location in the historic Amtrak Station

"It'll be an exciting opportunity for us being its a very historic building. It's got great bones. It helps us tell the story of Tallahassee," said Post.

The building's history and bones isn't the only reason for the move.

Based on the latest economic impact study, Florida visitors spent $112 billion and supported just over one million Florida jobs.
