LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Commissioners say they're in favor of sun-setting the downtown district of the community redevelopment agency.

This evening, the board spent a lot of time talking about the agency as a whole and whether the county should leave it altogether.

WTXL ABC 27's Stephen Jiwanmall joins us from the county courthouse. Stephen, what has the commission decided?

The board says it's in favor of phasing out the downtown district by 2020, but it takes more than that to make it official. The city still needs to support the motion, and if it doesn't, the county has come up with other ideas.

This has been tossed around by both the city and county. the CRA board has asked both commissions to talk about the agency's future on their own.

The county commissioners say it's time to end the downtown district or at least to withdraw county involvement, which includes funding projects.

Commissioner Kristin Dozier says she's in favor of possibly expanding the Frenchtown-Southside CRA, but only after the city and county figure out what to do with downtown.

Next, the county administrator will talk with the city manager about where the county stands.
