TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's Office, along with the Florida Sheriff's Risk Management Fund, are hoping an upcoming training will permanently eliminate preventable line of duty deaths and injuries.

For more than 65 years, less than 100 officers have died in the line of duty and today's "Below 100 Training Initiative" aims to get that number as low as possible.

The training started Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. at the Florida Sheriff's Risk Management Fund.

Sheriff McNeil says a few simple steps could be the difference between life and death.

Deputies are advised to wear their seatbelts, wear their vests, and watch their speed.
