TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - When you're online giving money to GoFundMe accounts and other online fundraisers, you need to watch out for fake accounts.
Leon County Sheriff's Office says, people frequently send money to fake accounts, with a lot of the money going overseas.
"Do your research," said Sgt. John Gamin with the LCSO Financial Crimes Unit. "Protect yourself. Look over the individual account to see if it's truly a valid account."
LSCO officials also say you can contact the managers of these accounts to verify if it is valid.
