Legendary R&B singer and songwriter James Ingram has lost his battle with brain cancer.
Ingram was 66 years old. He had fought the disease for awhile, sources told TMZ .
He is a native of Akron, Ohio.
The singer recorded many chart-topping hits in the 1980s, including "Baby Come to Me" with Patti Austin and "Somewhere Out There" with Linda Ronstadt, which won a Grammy for Pop Song of the Year and was the theme song for the 1986 animated movie "An American Tail."
Ingram also topped the chart in 1990 with “I Don’t Have the Heart" and co-wrote Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T." with Quincy Jones. Ingram and Jones often worked together.
