JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A 17-year-old has been charged in connection to a fatal shooting in Jackson County.

Daniel Pate, 17, was arrested on Monday night.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says the Cottondale shooting happened Monday around 4 p.m.

When deputies arrived to a home off of Veteran Road, they found 55-year-old Michael Pate, Daniel's uncle, dead outside the home with a single gunshot wound.

They say they got information from the family that suggested Daniel, who was armed, drove off in a white car that belonged to the victim.

Deputies learned that the argument started when the victim and Pate began arguing over use of the stolen car.

Later on, Daniel called from Bethlehem Church on the corner of Kynesville and Bethlehem Road and ultimately gave himself up to deputies.

He was the only one arrested in connection to the homicide. Daniel was charged with murder.

He has been transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice Detention Center. JCSO says they anticipate the State Attorney will charge Daniel as an adult.
