JA Big Bend announces winners of the third Annual Shark Bowl Competition

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Junior Achievement Big Bend (JA Big Bend) together with Leon County Schools, FSU and FAMU hosted the 2018 JA Big Bend Shark Bowl Competition. 

Students competed for over $11,000 of cash, scholarships and prizes. 

The Shark Bowl is a countywide competition of 25 students from Leon, Lincoln, Rickards, Chiles, and Godby High Schools who presented their business models to members of the local business community.  

The top five students each try convince the judges that their product or service is the best during the competition at the University Center Club, while 20 semifinalists presented interactive displays of their business ideas. 

The event linked leaders from the business community with aspiring young entrepreneurs who participated in JA Big Bend’s Be Entrepreneurial program.

Since the program began, JA Big Bend has nearly reached 4,500 students.  

Here is the winner of the 2018 Shark Bowl, along with the other four finalists: 

  • Winner: Malachi Jackson from Godby High School, Trash Bros Co.
  • Second Place: Elsa Meyer from Chiles High School, Buddy Bags.
  • Third Place: Ky’Rianna Washington from Rickards High School, Southern Bell Curly Tail.
  • Fourth Place: Devin McKenna from Leon High School, RainBright.
  • Fifth Place: Olivia Korta from Lincoln High School, My Height Heels.
