THOMASVILLE, GA (WTXL) - Thomasville resident Tommy Marshall wants to know when Patten Street won't resemble an old dirt road.
Marshall wants to know when the city will repair Patten Street after sewer work was completed on November 17.
"Just the age of the infrastructure, older pipes were made out of concrete and they deteriorate over time. A lot of our sewer system is 30, 40, 50 years old plus and it's time for them to be replaced,” explained city engineer Jerry Pionessa Jr.
So when will the city start the work to repair the road? The city engineer says because of the size of the project they have to hire a contractor with a paving machine. They started accepting bids on January 29 and on Monday the city council awarded a patching contract. The city engineer says the contractor will be authorized to move forward next week.
The City of Thomasville says resurfacing projects are sales tax funded and they're prioritized based on traffic counts and road conditions. Pionessa says that the Patten Street project is a maintenance and repair project associated with the wastewater department so the street will be patched not resurfaced.
The City of Thomasville says it understands the importance of getting the work done as soon as possible for the residents on Patten Street.
