TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - As 2017 wraps up, we're taking a look at the important people we lost in the community this year.
91-year-old James Ford was laid to rest in October.
Ford was elected in 1972. He served three terms as Tallahassee's first African-American mayor.
In fact, Ford was the first African-American mayor of any capital city in the country!
His contributions were so impactful, Governor Rick Scott ordered flags at the state capital and the Tallahassee City Hall to fly at half staff in Ford's honor.
Stick with WTXL as we share more of our in memoriam stories throughout your Friday night newscasts and this weekend.
