Illegal Immigrants in Florida

Posted

TALLAHASSEE (wtxl) - Florida is seeing a big rise in immigrants coming into the state illegally.

The total number of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally hasn't changed much since 2009.  But where they are living has.

A report released by the Pew Research Center, today, shows Florida has the biggest increase in residents without legal immigration status. Between 2009 and 2012, around 55,000 new immigrants in the country came to Florida illegally.  That makes the state's total an estimated 925,000.

Florida's agriculture, construction and hospitality industries, as well as the state's thriving legal immigrant population, tend to draw illegal immigrants in the country.
