WASHINGTON (AP) — A Johns Hopkins University dean who asked a prominent computer scientist to remove a blog over a post he published about the National Security Agency has apologized for acting in haste.
Hopkins engineering school dean Andrew Douglas said in a letter to cryptologist Matthew Green that Douglas acted too quickly and used inadequate information when asking Green to remove a blog hosted on Hopkins' servers. Green's post discussed recent news reports the NSA secretly weakened encryption widely used on the Internet.
A Hopkins spokesman said Monday it asked for the removal because Green's post linked to classified information and used the NSA's logo. But the university later said it realized the blog linked to material already published in the press.
Hopkins said it has allowed Green to repost his blog.
