ATLANTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has signed a law placing new restrictions on who can seek insured abortion services in the state.

The new law restricts coverage for abortion procedures on  state employee health plans, as well as plans purchased on the insurance exchanges created by the Affordable Care Act.

The language of the law provides for exceptions only in "medical emergency," and does not include a provision for rape.

The Affordable Care Act allows states to draft their own legislation restricting abortion coverage in health plans issued through the exchange.
