SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Gov. Rick Scott is spending three days this week on a tour of schools around Florida to promote the Legislature's passage of a $1 billion increase in education spending, including pay raises for teachers.

Scott kicked off the tour Monday with a pep rally at Piper High School in Sunrise and also planned visits to schools in West Palm Beach and Ponte Vedra. The governor will be in Ocoee on Tuesday and Tampa on Friday.

The tour gives Scott a popular issue to push as he gears up for his 2014 re-election bid. At Piper High, Scott told students and faculty that the $480 million for teacher pay raises is a big victory for education. Scott was criticized in the past for pushing through education spending cuts.
