Atlanta school system adjusts school bus schedules

ATLANTA (AP) - After parents complained about early-morning pick up times, Atlanta Public Schools is changing its school bus schedule.

Parent Lisa McIlvoy said the schedule had her young daughters getting on the bus at 6:30 a.m. to start school at 8 a.m. at a building less than a mile away from their home.

McIlvoy said that would have made for a 10-and-a-half-hour day for her kindergartener and second-grader. She said parents were also concerned about children getting to school long before the 8 a.m. start time.

WSB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/13Q3WSn) that the school system announced the new schedule via Twitter on Sunday evening. McIlvoy said the bus will come a half-hour later under the new schedule.

Classes begin Wednesday in Atlanta Public Schools.
