SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC)  - There’s some good news for Georgia Power customers. The company was ordered to refund its customers $43.6 million.

This comes after the company brought in a larger profit than the Georgia Public Service Commission had approved in 2016.

Details on what the refund will mean for Georgia Power's average customer is still unknown at this time. Georgia Power says that will be determined at a later date. The company did issue the following statement saying in part:

Georgia Power is committed to delivering clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy at rates that are consistently below the national average. Today's refund approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission is a direct result of a constructive regulatory environment, along with the company's continued commitment to effectively manage its business and share the benefits with its customers.

As soon as it is known just how much Georgia Power customers may see taken off of their next bill, we will update this story.
