LOWNDES CO., Ga. (WTXL) - A Lowndes County inmate is found dead in his cell and now investigators are looking into his death. Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine says an officer found 45-year old Paul John Wadman unresponsive and hanging by a bed sheet from his jail cell about 3:00 a.m. this morning. That same officer had just checked the cell an hour earlier.

The officer tried life saving efforts and called for nurses and paramedics. Wadman was in general population but assigned to an individual cell with no other cellmate.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death and an autopsy will be conducted. Investigators have contacted Wadman's family and notified them of the death and the on-going investigation.

Wadman was arrested on April 17, 2014 by the Valdosta Police Department on a Driving under the influence (D.U.I.) charge.
