BROOKS CO., GA (WALB) - Authorities were called out to a death in Brooks County Tuesday, where they found a teenager dead.
The GBI was requested to assist in the death investigation of Dakota Starling, 16, on Knotty Pine Drive off Highway 94 in Brooks County.
Brooks Co. deputies and EMS initially responded and found Starling dead. The GBI was requested to assist and process the scene in his home.
The investigation thus far has revealed others were present in the residence with Starling when the shooting occurred.
Starling’s body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Macon, where an autopsy is being conducted.
Once the investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney for his review and any action he deems necessary.

Mourning a fallen brother
The Brooks County Fire Department posted on its Facebook page after Starling's death.
After expressing their sorrow in losing Starling, the department also posted a photo of Starling's gear at the fire station.
Brooks County Fire Department officials said Starling was a part of the East Brooks Volunteer Fire Department. The program is a stepping stone for teenagers who want to be in fire department service.
Starling would have made an outstanding fireman and was always eager to learn, officials said.
