QUINCY, FL (WTXL) - A Gadsden County Teacher is being charged in the battery of a student attending a summer program at West Gadsden High School.
The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office says that Nekeshia Harris struck a male student after her daughter and the boy got into a fight over a pencil and paper.
Deputies say the incident happened on July 2 around 9 a.m. A security officer asked Harris to stay but she had left by the time deputies arrived.
Deputies say there were scratches on the student's neck as well as a knot over his left eye. The mother of the student requested that charges be filed against Harris.
Deputies spoke with Harris by phone after the incident where she requested that charges be filed against the male student for hitting her daughter. Deputies told her they wouldn't not filed charges against the student after witness statements show that the daughter hit the male student first.
Harris was arrested and charged with "simple battery" according to the Gadsden Clerk.
