GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Gadsden County is continuing its quest to bring the community together, now by opening a new park in Quincy.
Gadsden Commissioners are inviting everyone to join them today for the groundbreaking of the East Gadsden Park.
But one commissioner says this is only a park by name, because what it offers is so much more than the word can describe.
The park is going up in the St. Hebron Community.
The huge new recreational park complex is set to boast indoor facilities like conference rooms, a basketball court and a computer room.
Outside, there will be a pavilion, a walking trail and a pool.
It will even serve as an emergency shelter for the county.
Commissioners say this is park is unlike anything that Gadsden County currently has.
"Gadsden County as a whole does not actually have a park an recreation center in the true sense of it," said Gadsden County Commissioner Anthony Viegbesie. "Yes, we have passive parks, but we do not have a real park and community center."
But it will be a while before you get to hang out in the new park.
Tuesday marks the beginning of Phase 1, which only serves the walking trail.
There's no set timeline on the parks completion date because of the costs of the project.
Everyone is invited out to the groundbreaking, which will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at 2162 Fantana Trail.
Commissioners say economic development is definitely a top priority once the park takes off. They are making sure that, every step of the way, those who live in the St. Hebron Community are heard since they are the mose impacted.
