GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Gadsden County leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future East Gadsden Recreation Park and Multipurpose Complex on Tuesday.

The 25 acres on Fantana Trail, in the Saint Hebron neighborhood, will feature an indoor basketball arena, two meeting rooms, a one-mile walking trail, a large health and fitness room, rooms for kids to study, a game room and picnic areas.

Gadsden leaders believe the new park will help improve the quality of life for those living in the area.

It will also reduce juvenile delinquency rates by giving kids an outlet to keep them out of trouble.

The park is being paid for, in part, by grants.

Tuesday's groundbreaking is for Phase One of the project. The goal, if funding allows, is to also have an aquatic center on site.
