TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - An alumna of Florida State University's Master of Social Work program, has been named the new police chief in West Palm Beach.

Sarah Mooney, a 22 year veteran of the department, was promoted to the role in December.

Mooney's education includes earning a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Missouri-Columbia, before moving on to Florida State University for her Master of Social Work.

Mooney says she wants to continue to build community relations and will work hard to try and reduce crime.

"We can use the data that we get from our crime statistics in order to try to drill down on it a little bit to come up with a game plan and how to address it as things might spike here and there," said Mooney.

She also says she will try to keep the agency up with the growth of the city, by expanding as the population grows.
