THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) - Dr. Susan Lynn was named Thomas University’s 2018 Professor of the Year during their commencement ceremony on Saturday.
Dr. Lynn, who lives in Tallahassee, “redefined the quality of education in both the Initial Teacher Certification and Advanced Graduate Programs through visionary leadership,” according to the nomination letter.
Through Dr. Lynn’s efforts, TU’s Division of Education began offering four new programs in 2015 – a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction along with a master’s degree, education specialist degree and endorsement all in Teacher Leadership.
“Dr. Lynn doesn’t see her position as just a job,” said Dr. John Meis, TU Vice President for Academic Affairs. “For her, preparing future educators is a passion, and she’s willing to invest whatever time and effort it takes to make sure that her students become outstanding teachers.”
Because Dr. Lynn recognizes the need for student engagement, she makes sure TU Education students have the technology tools they need and the training for how to use those tools.
She regularly encourages students and faculty to pursue professional development opportunities.
Before joining TU, Dr. Lynn served 23 years as a faculty member in the College of Education at Florida State University.
She previously spent eight years teaching grades k-12 in public schools.
