SANDY SPRINGS, GA (WBRC) - A former corrections officer in St. Clair County, AL is now facing additional charges in a series of sexual assault cases in Georgia.

Forty-eight-year-old Matthew Lee Moore of Springville is being held without bond in the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta. He is back in Georgia after his arrest earlier this month in St. Clair County.

He was employed as a correctional officer at the St. Clair County Correctional facility in Springville, AL until his arrest on these charges back in late March.

Moore has been under investigation since November 2015. He is a suspect in multiple sexual assault cases in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.

DNA was collected from Moore at the time of his arrest. After analysis, the DNA profile of the suspect matched DNA collected from victims in 2010 and 2015 in Sandy Springs, GA.

Moore's DNA also matched that collected from victims in Homewood, AL, in 2008, Birmingham in 2010, and Cobb County, GA, in 2010. Moore is also a suspect in another sexual assault case earlier this year in Jupiter, Florida. DNA evidence is pending analysis in that case.

In addition to the sexual assault charges in Sandy Springs, he is also charged with impersonating an officer, rape, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and aggravated assault with intent to rape.

Detectives working the case in Georgia believe there may be many victims of Moore who have not yet come forward, but police are now encouraging them to do so.
