HIALEAH, Fla. (AP) - The six people killed in a shooting at their South Florida apartment complex are being remembered at a memorial mass.

Hialeah officials and the Archdiocese of Miami have organized a memorial mass Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Gunman Pedro Vargas went on a shooting rampage at the building where he lived with his elderly mother on July 26. He shot and killed the husband and wife managers of the building, a family of three and a father returning from his son's boxing practice.

Vargas eluded police in the complex for hours before taking two people hostage at gunpoint. He was killed after exchanging gunfire with SWAT team officers who moved in to rescue the people he was holding captive. Both were saved.
