SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Final preparations are being made for Nik Wallenda's tightrope walk over the Sarasota bayfront today.
Wallenda received approval from the city of Sarasota last Tuesday to perform his tightrope act. The Sarasota native plans to begin his walk from a crane that will be set up near the Unconditional Surrender statue along the Sarasota bayfront.
A little after 11am he perform his daredevil walk across a wire strung over U.S. 41 to the Marina Tower condo on Gulfstream Avenue.
We will accompany him all the way to the wire and be the last ones to talk to him before his historic "Skywalk" across US41 from the Unconditional Surrender statue along the Sarasota Bayfront.
Circus Sarasota is a proud sponsor of the event. It is investing $15,000 in production costs for the event as a way to contribute to the world famous circus legacy in the Sarasota community. Preservation of the circus arts is part of Circus Sarasota’s year round community outreach program.
Nik Wallenda is currently performing in Circus Sarasota's Winter Performance. Wallenda made national headlines last summer when he walked over Niagara Falls.
