ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. (AP) - A Pinellas County man serving life in prison for shooting his wife to death in 2006 has been charged with killing a fellow inmate last year at the Zephyrhills Correctional Institution.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that 34-year-old Eric G. Davis was charged with beating 54-year-old Joe Hayes at the state prison.

Davis is charged with non-premeditated homicide.

Hayes suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital, where he died April 21, 2012.

Hayes was serving a 99-year prison term for a series of burglaries and rapes that occurred in 1980 in Charlotte County.
